Dr. Robert M. Brown Internship in Living History

Do you have a passion for performance, or an interest in telling historical stories in a creative way? Consider a Living History Internship! Our living history interns choose a historical time period or theme that fits within Fort Missoula’s history, research the lifeways of the time, and then bring a historical person to life for visitors to the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. Characters may be real historical people, or a composite of several people.

A few of the historic personages portrayed by living history interns include:

  • The librarian in the Lumberman’s Library Car circa 1920
  • A court reporter working in the Alien Detention Center circa 1942
  • The Grant Creek School’s new teacher
  • A fashionable Missoulian riding the streetcar downtown in 1930
  • The fire lookout at Slide Rock Mountain in 1930
  • A soldier stationed at Fort Missoula in 1879
  • Two late 1800s women homesteaders
