The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula specializes in providing unique educational tours. Our tours tell the stories of Missoula from the homestead period through the present. We have tour options to suit any group’s interest in Missoula’s history and some with more global themes.

WWII Alien Detention Center Tour
A guided tour of the exhibits and grounds related to the WWII Japanese and Italian internment camp at Fort Missoula
Forestry Interpretive Area Tour
A guided tour of the exhibits and grounds related to the Forestry Interpretive Area and History of the Forest Product Industry in Western Montana.
Grounds & Outside Exhibit Tour
A guided tour of the exhibits and historic buildings related to the history of Western Montana.
Historic Apple Pressing (fall only)
During the fall we invite groups to make apple cider with an old fashioned apple press, learn about the anatomy of an apple and the significance of apples in Montana. Tours are approximately 45 minutes of apple pressing activity with a fresh beverage at the end!
How many tours are there?
- Currently, we have four standard tours. And can customize a private tour geared towards your interests.
Can I reserve a spot for the Fort Missoula tours?
- Absolutely! We ask that you reserve your spot at least 2 days in advance. Email us to confirm your tour.
Where do we meet?
- The Parking lot in front of the Main Museum Building (3400 Captain Rawn Way).
What if I need to cancel?
- We understand that things come up! Please contact us as soon as possible so we know you can’t make it.
What are the prices?
- Tours are free, but we greatly appreciate donations to the Museum.
How long are the tours?
- The tours are approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long and the outside tours covers about a mile on foot.
